Why we’re doing this

Being far away shouldn’t mean being left out.

You did the thing you were supposed to do. You retired somewhere warm, near the golf and the friends and the good weather. And you’d do it again. But nobody warned you what it would cost in the small, ordinary moments — the ones that don’t make it into a phone call.

The quiet problem

The call becomes an obligation.

You call. They’re busy, or shy, or mid-homework. After “how was school,” the two of you run out of things to say. The school play happened last Tuesday and you heard about it Friday. Slowly, without anyone deciding it, you become the sad phone call instead of part of the week — and it gets easier to stop reaching out.

What we believe

Warmth is the strategy.

We think the fix isn’t more technology to keep up with. It’s one small ritual that arrives on its own, gives you something real to talk about, and doesn’t depend on anyone remembering to start it. Put the grandparent at the center, make it warm and simple, and the relationship has room to grow.

Why not just use what’s already there?

The usual apps weren’t built for a family.

Group chats, social feeds, and general chatbots can connect people — but they weren’t made for a six-year-old and a grandparent to share a private moment.

Where families connect today

  • A public or semi-public space where a child’s photo can travel further than intended.
  • Strangers, algorithms, and advertising sharing the room with the family.
  • Open-ended content nobody vetted for a young child.
  • Terms written for advertisers, not for grandparents.

Grandbabiez

  • One private circle, invited by the family — up to ten people, added by phone number.
  • No feed, no discovery, no strangers, no advertising.
  • Prompts written and reviewed for the child’s age band.
  • Nothing leaves the circle, nothing is public, nothing is sold.

Honest about where we are

We’re building this with grandparents, not just for them.

Grandbabiez is new. We’re starting small — with a hundred families here in Central Florida — because that’s how many we can look after personally while we learn what actually helps. We’d rather get it right with a hundred families than get it half-right with ten thousand.
